The commune consists of nearly 8,500 inhabitants living in 6 villages: Baczyn, Bieńkówka, Budzów, Jachówka, Palcza and Zachełmna. The settlements were established in 14th and early 15th century. The oldest of all historic documents known today was issued by king Casimir the Great in 1369 and referred to the largest village of the commune – Budzów (establishing village council). One of the most important events in the history of the area took place during the Confederation of Bar.
